Frequently Asked Questions

What are some common reasons people hire a sleep consultant?

Tiny ZZZ Sleep Consulting works with parents/caretakers of 0-5 year olds who are having difficulty with their child’s sleep for a variety of reasons. These include frequent night wakings, early rising, trouble with naps, sleep associations that are difficult to break such as nursing/bottle feeding to sleep, pacifier dependency or rocking/walking to sleep, babies who only fall asleep in a swing/carrier/stroller/carseat, difficulty with transitioning to a toddler bed, laying down with child to get them to sleep, and more!

At what age can I begin sleep training?

4 months (16 weeks after due date). However, healthy habits can start from day one so expectant parents or those who have a newborn-3 month old, can learn about sleep hygiene, milestones and what to expect early on! In fact, sleep training can actually be prevented if healthy habits begin from the start. Check out the services section for details.

I don't believe in 'Cry it Out', can I still sleep train?

This is a very common concern for parents who reach out for assistance from a sleep consultant. While it is important that parents be realistic and understand that the nature of sleep training involves changes in their child’s schedule and routine and some protesting (crying) is to be expected, there are a variety of methods that I suggest, ranging from gentle to intermediate strategies. Cry it out- or extinction as it is formally named is never an expectation when I work with families. Strategies are suggested based on comfort level of the parents and temperament of the child as well as other factors related to family dynamics and parenting beliefs and styles. One of the main goals I have when I work with families, is for parents to feel comfortable implementing the strategies that are included in the sleep plan created for their child.

What if my child has a medical concern that may be affecting sleep?

Any medical concern or question that may be affecting sleep needs to be addressed by the child’s pediatrician or specialist, depending on the nature of the concern. This includes number of feedings required/suggested for babies who are still eating overnight. After the pediatrician or other doctor or healthcare professional gives the OK to begin sleep training, the process can begin!

What if I am not sure if I am ready?

Set up a FREE 15 minute consultation! There are no obligations and this gives parents the opportunity to share their family’s story, struggles and concerns and find out more about how Tiny ZZZ Sleep Consulting can help!

What if I choose one plan and then realize I want/need more support later on?

Often parents sign up for a plan (3 email, 1 or 2 week) and then decide once getting started that they would like more support along the way. There are always options to add on further support, for example, an extra week of text/email support. I am here to help guide parents throughout this process and recommend which service I think would be most helpful based on individual needs and parenting styles!

Can I purchase services as a gift for someone else?

Yes! The most popular gift service purchased is the Expectant Parent/Newborn-3 month package, which is often given as a baby shower present. It is an excellent gift for new parents- as it is the gift of sleep! Other packages can also be bought as gifts as well, however, it is important to make sure that the parent receiving the gift is on board with accepting the sleep support 🙂

How does payment work?

Payment is due via your choice of Paypal or Venmo prior to services being rendered. Once a parent has made a commitment to a service, I will send a contract which specifies all of the details. Once that is signed and returned, a Paypal or Venmo request will be sent. As soon as payment is made, we will get started!

What is the refund policy?

There are no refunds once payment is completed. I am a firm believer that sleep training is about making a commitment to being consistent with a child’s sleep. When parents are consistent and follow the plan, there will be success with sleep training. If there is an unexpected circumstance (illness, family emergency, or some other reason why the plan is unable to be implemented in the time specified), a reasonable extension can be made so that the plan can be implemented appropriately. This policy is clearly stated in the contract agreement provided to all clients before payment is due.
